Belen, N.M. – Valencia County Sheriff’s deputies have identified the person whose legs were discovered a few days apart in irrigation ditches south of Albuquerque last month.
The legs – which both had the same type of boot and artificial joints from knee surgery – belonged to Billie Rogers, 93, a Navajo who last lived in Albuquerque, said Valencia County Sheriff’s Lt. James Purdy.
The Office of the Medical Investigator used serial numbers on the artificial joints to track down the hospital where the surgery was done 10 years ago.
“Now that we at least know the name, we can start our real investigation and try to find out what happened,” Purdy said.
