The man killed in a runway accident Monday at Denver International Airport has been identified as a 46-year-old from Beaver Falls, Pa., according to a police report.

Robert Lee Genzler was cleaning rubber off a runway when he was struck and killed about 5 a.m. by a high-powered runway-scrubbing machine, according to Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman.

Genzler was apparently bent over to retrieve an item and could not be seen by the operator of the heavy equipment, Jackson said.

Genzler was an employee of Rampart Hydro Services of Coraopolis, Pa.

He was married and had three children, including a son who is a U.S. Army soldier serving in Iraq, according to a company news release. He also had a grandson.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been contacted and will conduct an independent review of the accident, Jackson said.
