Getting your player ready...

Air Force Academy — Newcomers, including sophomore receiver Sean Quintana from Highlands Ranch High School, gathered praise Wednesday from coach Troy Calhoun as Air Force completed its only two-a-day session of preseason practice.

Calhoun predicted Quintana would move up on the next depth chart. Calhoun expects to have a new lineup of his players after Saturday’s practice.

“Sean plays with passion,” Calhoun said. “He’s a focuses and an intense player, with qualities you usually associate with Air Force players.

Calhoun had about 90 freshmen candidates on the practice field. He saw three who stood out: cornerback Reggie Rembert, linebacker Kenny Lamendola and tailback Savier Stephens.

Air Force’s injury list remained long. Senior tackle Dan Holder, who had been moving up the depth chart, is expected to be sideline four or five weeks with a sprained knee.

With the season three weeks away, Air Force’s radio network still is searching for a Denver outlet.
