DENVER—Meg Collins, a Colorado native and longtime Boulder resident, has been appointed president of the Colorado Oil and Gas Association, a trade group.

She replaces Greg Schnacke, who is resigning to work with Golden-based Americans for American Energy and the lobbying and public relations firm Policy Communications.

Schnacke said he will stay on at COGA until the end of the year.

Collins, the first woman to head COGA, will start Aug. 24, after the group’s annual conference.

“The Rocky Mountain West is doing its part to meet our nation’s energy challenge, but we are at a critical juncture,” said Ted Brown, COGA board chairman. “I know Meg will be a great ambassador for the industry and reach out to stakeholders in the state and seek consensus on how to responsibly develop oil and gas resources.”

Collins, a University of Colorado graduate, has been in charge of environmental and governmental affairs for the Colorado Livestock Association since 2002. She has worked on environmental and energy issues for Union Pacific Resources, Shell Oil Co. and law and public affairs firms.

She was a legislative aide to the late Sen. Floyd Haskell, D-Colo.
