Minneapolis – Three bodies were pulled from the Mississippi on Thursday, including those of a 47-year-old man and a toddler.

Peter Hausmann of Rosemount, Minn., was identified by the Hennepin County medical examiner. A source close to the investigation indicated that the other remains were those of Sadiya Sahal, 23, of St. Paul, Minn., and her 22-month-old daughter, Hana. Sahal was five months pregnant.

Hausmann, a father of four, did missionary work and helped AIDS victims in Africa.

“Pete is the type of guy who would do anything to help someone. … He opened up his home to people in need,” said Jeff Olej nik, Hausmann’s boss at Assurity River Group in St. Paul.

A Sahal family member declined to comment but said, “It is time for grieving.”

Sahal’s former teacher Naomi Ryman said, “She was a confident, bright, friendly and often smiling young woman who seemed to be able to negotiate well between both cultures.”

Sahal emigrated from Somalia in 2000, graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis and become a U.S. citizen last year, Ryman said.

The death toll now stands at eight; five people remain missing.
