A head-on collision left a Fruita man dead Wednesday evening on Colorado 141 just south of Gateway, according to the State Patrol.

A 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix was headed northbound at a high rate of speed when it crossed over the yellow lines and collided with a southbound 1999 Ford F-250 pickup truck.

The Pontiac spun around but remained on the roadway. The pickup was forced off the west side of the shoulder and rolled onto its top.

The driver of the Pontiac, Terry King, 46, died at the scene. The pickup driver, Michael White, 42, of Telluride, suffered minor injuries.
