It’s history in NYC – but Colorado’s Firefighter Calendar lives on.
The release party for the flame-dousing beefcake date-keeper is Aug. 23 at Rise Nightclub. A runway show will feature all 15 of the heroes (one woman), followed by a (gulp) Firefighter Bachelor Auction. It all benefits The Children’s Hospital Burn Center.
In NYC, life isn’t so easy. One of the firefighters in the FDNY 2008 calendar emerged naked in a video titled “Guys Gone Wild.” In the calendar, he’s pictured shirtless in front of the Statue of Liberty, which is fine. But naked don’t fly. The 2008 “Calendar of Heroes” will remain on shelves, but it’s the very last edition, said NY Fire Commish Nicholas Scoppetta.
No naked Colorado firefighters are involved in our calendar, says organizer Kirsten Hamling.
Wild girls
Speaking of going wild, “Girls Gone Wild Endless Summer Tour” will videotape those crazy kissing coeds tonight at PT’s Showclub and Saturday night at Tabu.
And this marks the beginning of Tabu as an event center, not a nightclub. It will not be open every weekend as a hip club any more. R.I.P.
Stung
Tonight was supposed to be the night.
Last time I saw Hazel Miller, she told me it was a go. She was skedded to sing in Aspen with Sting. The Sting-along was to come down after dinner at the Rocky Mountain Institute’s 25th Anniversary Gala.
But Miller was just told that the Sting appearance was off – no real explanation. “I just wish someone had told me,” says Miller.
The swanky crowd might still get impressed – a gang that includes emcee Thomas Friedman; Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard; British Sky TV media man James Murdoch (youngest son of Rupert Murdoch); Wal-Mart chairman Rob Walton; former NY Gov. George Pataki; Lin Wells (Pentagon’s principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for command, control, communications and Intelligence!); former CIA Director R. James Woolsey; and, maybe, Bill Clinton (who spoke to the group Thursday at the Hotel Jerome).
They’re plotting ways to save the planet – while still making money. “We foster the efficient and restorative use of resources to make the world secure, just, prosperous and life-sustaining,” says RMI’s website.
Auction items at the gala include a 10-day safari in Tanzania; a 2007 Lexus RX 400h Hybrid; a 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid; a 2007 Toyota Prius Hybrid; and a Segway Personal Transporter. This gig is green with green.
