This all started when I realized I don’t need my home phone service anymore. For a couple years I worked out of my home office and had a land line for outgoing calls, my cell phone for incoming calls and Qwest DSL attached to my land line.
I purchased the ActionTec wireless modem, and the whole arrangement worked great. I used a cable to my PC, and my houseguests easily signed on to my wireless service, which was terrific. Qwest service by and large was pretty stable. I had to pay $15 a month for my own Internet provider. I used Mile Hi and they were absolutely terrific, with instant help from capable Denver, COLORADO technicians who spoke great English, if you know what I mean.
Alas, the world is changing once more and I am swept up in this rush to capture the gold we Internet people (i.e. everyone who works) are willing to pay for access to the rest of the Universe. So I’ve been talking to colleagues, viewing the advertising by Qwest and Comcast, the local titans dueling for my gold, and trying to sort it all out.
I am not an idiot, not a total one anyway, but I have to tell you I am no closer to understanding than when I started. I have made a decision that I am uneasy about, and here’s why:

I don’t pretend to be any kind of expert on the telecommunications industry, or the choices they present to us. I’m just an ordinary schmo trying to figure out how to get my media in an overhead structure I can afford.
