ROSEBURG, Ore.—Bart Smith, editor of The News-Review for the past 14 years, on Monday was named publisher of the Greeley (Colo.) Tribune. Both dailies are owned by Swift Communications.
Smith takes over for Steve Weaver, who for the past year held the dual role as Greeley Tribune publisher and general manger of Northern Colorado Communications. Weaver will continue as general manager of Northern Colorado Communications properties, which include the Tribune, Fort Collins Now, and farm and ranch publications in Colorado, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
Smith’s appointment will be effective Sept. 10.
Replacing Smith in Roseburg will be Vicki Menard, The News-Review’s city editor for eight years.
As publisher in Greeley, Smith will have overall responsibility for the seven-day a week newspaper with a circulation of about 25,000.
Smith joined The News-Review in 1993, after working as an editor and publisher on daily, twice-weekly and weekly newspapers in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.
Menard, replacing Smith as editor, will supervise 23 newsroom employees. A native Oregonian, Menard joined The News-Review as a college intern in July 1983. She became a full-time reporter upon receiving her bachelor’s degree in technical journalism from Oregon State University in 1986.
