Everywhere you look these days there’s a county fair, community fair or craft fair going on, and opinions expressed by way of The Denver Post $25 haiku contest showed us just how diverse poets’ feelings on the matter are. (You there, up in the foothills, who riffed about a 32-ounce “tumbler” of gin, you know who you are.) Diana Perkins of Highlands Ranch wrote a winning haiku that was especially evocative:
Three-legged races
Kissing booths, cream pie face
Cheap thrills: fifty cents
You can read the rest of the tributes to cotton candy, carnival rides and currycombed pigs at . And if they make you feel like you’ve got something to say in 5-7-5 poetry form, enter a one-stanza haiku at lifestyle@denverpost.com or file it at . Don’t forget to include your name and hometown in the message. Our favorite wins a gift certificate to the Tattered Cover Book Store.
