A move to promote certain sections of the upper Colorado River for “Wild and Scenic” designation requires that supporters express their opinions to the Bureau of Land Management by Friday. The agency has identified seven segments for candidacy. Comments should be directed to cormpkg@blm.gov.
Smith Reservoir salvage
Plunging water levels has prompted the Colorado Division of Wildlife to declare an emergency fish salvage on Smith Reservoir in Costilla County, effective today. Only conventional angling methods are allowed.
Aiding kokanee migration
In cooperation with the Gunnison River Water Conservancy District and local irrigators, the Colorado Division of Wildlife on Aug. 22 will rebuild an irrigation diversion structure on the Gunnison River just below the Gunnison County Water Park.
The project will facilitate migration of kokanee salmon on the river and will last up to five days. Boaters will not be allowed on the section during construction.
