Candace Rucker, who played in every game last season as a true freshman, has decided to leave the University of Colorado, the school announced Tuesday. The guard from Memphis, Tenn., is expected to transfer to a school closer to home.
“We tried our best to provide a good athletic and academic environment for Candace,” coach Kathy McConnell-Miller said in a statement. “We will miss having her on our team, but we understand and respect the decision that she has made.”
Rucker, who started three games, averaged 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds for the Buffs (13-17). She was fourth on the team with 28 steals.
Thrown rock killed climber: prosecutor
The rock that killed Pete Absolon, the Rocky Mountain regional director of the National Outdoor Leadership School, as he was climbing near Lander, Wyo., on Saturday, was thrown from above by a 23-year-old Wyoming man, a prosecutor said Tuesday.
Fremont County Attorney Ed Newell said he would speak with relatives and friends of Absolon before deciding whether to file charges. Newell declined to identify the rock thrower, but he said that, judging from a sheriff’s investigation, the man hadn’t known that people were climbing below him.
