Mariah Carey is renting Tommy Hilfiger’s East Hampton estate for $350,000 for the month of August, according to the New York Post’s Braden Keil. The contemporary oceanfront property on well-heeled Further Lane includes five bedrooms, 5 1/2 baths, a media room, an outdoor entertaining pavilion, an infinity pool and more than 150 feet of beachfront. Carey is probably ready for some R&R. She finished her next movie, “Tennessee,” earlier this summer has been logging time in the recording studio.

Meanwhile, Hilfiger has been busy renovating his digs on an upper-level floor of the Plaza, according to Keil. The fashion mogul is combining two apartments into one for approximately $27 million. Hilfiger originally intended to buy just one unit in the landmark building, but now his place has been bumped up to 5,500 square feet. It will include four bedrooms, a formal dining room, a large living room, staff rooms and a wraparound view of Central Park and Fifth Avenue. His closing is expected to happen by the end of the year. He will join such notable residents as New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, developer Harry Macklowe, Italian auto-racing magnate Flavio Briatore and singer Jocelyn Wildenstein.

Ashton Kutcher is much handier than the bone-headed Michael Kelso character he played on “That 70s Show,” according to the New York Daily News’ Ben Widdicombe. As part of his research for an upcoming role, Kutcher reportedly shadowed a closet installer from the Closet Factory, and pitched in with some of the work by nimbly installing a tie rack. “The client was shocked that a celebrity was installing his closet,” said Widdicombe’s unidentified source. “But he was such a great guy. Just a decent, normal guy.”
