Rapids acquire veteran defender

The Rapids on Wednesday traded a fourth-round draft choice in the 2009 Major League Soccer SuperDraft to Chicago for defender Tony Sanneh, who will be eligible to play in tonight’s game against the New England Revolution.

CSU hires women’s basketball assistant

Dick Lien, a women’s basketball world traveler with more than 42 years of coaching experience, was hired as an assistant at Colorado State.

Lien spent the past five seasons as an assistant at Woodbury Senior High School in Woodbury, Minn. Before that, he coached in Saudi Arabia, Croatia, Denmark, Belgium, and Austria. In the States, he was head coach at Wisconsin-Green Bay and an assistant at Houston, Southern Methodist, Wyoming, and Minnesota.

FSN announces high school football schedule

Fox Sports Rocky Mountain will broadcast six high school football games this season. They are: Sept. 20, Cherry Creek vs. Mullen; Oct. 4, Arvada West vs. Columbine; Oct. 11, ThunderRidge vs. Golden; Oct. 12, Highlands Ranch vs. Douglas County; Oct. 19, Highlands Ranch vs. Ponderosa; and Oct. 26, Bear Creek vs. Columbine. All games start at 7 p.m.

U.S. snowboarding team selected

Colorado is well-represented on the U.S. snowboarding team announced Wednesday, with two young riders joining the team’s rookie squad.

Steve Fisher of Breckenridge is on the halfpipe pro team, while Dylan Bidez of Minturn and Matt Ladley of Steamboat Springs are on the halfpipe rookie squad.

Halfpipe specialists Clair Bidez of Minturn, Gretchen Bleiler and Tricia Byrnes, both of Aspen, are on the pro team.

Jason Smith of Basalt is on the snowboardercross “B” team, and Jordan Karlinski of Aspen is on the women’s boardercross “C” team. Veterans Chris Klug of Aspen and Justin Reiter of Steamboat Springs are on the men’s alpine “A” team, and Erica Mueller of Steamboat Springs is on the women’s alpine “B” team.
