ASPEN, Colo.—Actress Julie Christie will attend the Aspen Filmfest to accept the “Independent by Nature” Award on Sept. 29, festival organizers said Thursday.

The award recognizes individualism and creative risk-taking. Previous recipients include Harrison Ford, Michael Douglas, Angelica Huston and William H. Macy.

Christie won the Oscar for best actress for “Darling” in 1965 and portrayed Lara Antipova in the 1965 film “Dr. Zhivago.” Her latest film is “Away From Her,” about a woman stricken with Alzheimer’s.

The Aspen Filmfest is Sept. 26-30.
