Project offers foreclosed homes

About 28 low- to moderate-income families will have the opportunity to buy foreclosed homes in Thornton as the result off a partnership between Mercy Housing Colorado, the city of Thornton and the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority.

The city will transfer more than $4.48 million in bond authority to the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority to fund mortgage loans to the families.

Potential homeowners will be encouraged to buy homes acquired through Mercy Housing Colorado’s Homeownership Program. Mercy buys foreclosed homes, rehabilitates them and offers them at affordable prices to families who make an average of 80 percent of the area median income.

Play, dog houses aid foundation

Ten members of the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver have built and donated three children’s playhouses and seven dog houses to be displayed at the 2007 Parade of Homes at Southshore.

The playhouses will be auctioned online. Bids for each of the three playhouses will be taken at . Bidding starts at $1,000 per playhouse. The deadline is 5 p.m. Sept. 3.

The doghouses will be raffled off individually. Raffle tickets are $5 or five for $20 and can be purchased at the Parade of Homes. The winning tickets will be drawn at 5 p.m. Sept. 3.

Proceeds from the auction and raffle will benefit the Home Builders Foundation, whose mission is to provide accessible and improved housing for people with long-term disabilities.
