Two Adams State College seniors, punter Wayne Durham and tight end Chris Ross, have been named to the preseason All-American team by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette, which covers small-college football. Durham also received first-team honors from .

Durham’s 44.0-yard punting average last season was second-best in Division II. Ross had 46 receptions for 404 yards and four touchdowns from his H-back position last season.

Also named to Hansen’s team was Colorado Mines’ Aaron Abel, a senior place-kicker from Cheyenne East High School in Wyoming.

Mountain bikers in top 10 in California

Chris Del Bosco of Vail finished sixth in the men’s race at the Mountain Biking World Professional Championships in San Luis Obispo, Calif., the second race of the series.

Boulder’s Neven Steinmetz, a student at the University of Colorado, finished seventh in the women’s competition. The series wraps up Sept. 1 in Beaver Creek.

Brown sixth in diving at University Games

Drew Brown of Centennial, who will be a freshman at the University of Minnesota this year, finished sixth in 3-meter synchronized diving with teammate Sean Moore on Friday at the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
