It was with some trepidation that we asked writers to bid fare-thee-well to the barefoot fun of summer. But we were not disappointed by this week’s entries to The Denver Post $25 haiku contest. Dr. Mike Sawyer of Denver put a fine point on the issue of returning to school in his winning haiku:
Crayola Crayon
Sixty four pack, Sharpener!
Burnt Sienna rules!
You can read the rest of takes – good, bad and anxious – about putting away the beach towels and picking up the book bags at . And if they make you feel like you’ve got something to say in 5-7-5 poetry form, enter a one-stanza haiku at lifestyle@denverpost.com, or file it at . Don’t forget to include your name and hometown in the message. Our favorite wins a gift certificate to the Tattered Cover Book Store.
This week’s topic is:
Work.
The deadline is midnight Thursday. Good luck, and start writing.
