Once again, Colorado’s Zero Week in football will have value.

The early weekend of play, designed for teams that can’t complete their regular-season schedules against appropriate competition in the allotted 10-week time slot, will feature games today and Saturday as certain groups will have their preseason practice time cut and encounter a later bye.

Thomas Jefferson will be the only Class 5A team in action today against 4A Green Mountain, and defending 4A state champion Wheat Ridge will host Montrose.

On Saturday, 4A Denver Prep League teams will feature a triple-header at All-City Stadium among six offerings statewide.

While football will make it four sports beginning the fall season ahead of time – boys golf, softball and boys tennis started earlier this month – Colorado will have competition across the board in six days in its 87th scholastic sports year on record.
