True story. A guy asked me the other day whether I thought the Broncos would cover the point spread Saturday night against the Browns.
Cover the spread? In the exhibition season? Who knows? Or cares, for that matter.
I will say this, though. The Broncos are going to win the game. They need to. Not for their record; for their self-esteem.
Sure, it’s August. Yes, the exhibition season is relatively meaningless. But after almost a month of nagging injuries, and after a pitiful performance at Dallas, the Broncos need to play well.
First, they need to get their A-listers on the field. Then they need to play well. Not to show everyone else they can do it. To show themselves they can.
With most or all of the starters scheduled to sit out the preseason finale against Arizona, the Broncos need to get it together Saturday. With the Browns in town, it shouldn’t be too tall an order.
