The DIA Partnership today said it has entered into discussions to consolidate its operations with the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp.

The DIA Partnership was formed in 1995 after the opening of Denver International Airport to focus on economic development in the northeast metro area. In 2007, DIAP shifted its focus to promoting the airport and aviation-related job growth.

“Now is the ideal time to leverage the DIAP’s airport-centric mission with Metro Denver EDC’s strength as our region’s major economic development leader,” said Mary Rose Loney, DIAP’s president and CEO, in a statement issued by the partnership.

While details of the proposed consolidation are still being negotiated by the boards of both organizations, the partnership said it expects to operate it’s expected that DIAP will operate under the Metro Denver EDC as a special purpose entity focusing on DIA and its future growth.

“DIA is a major economic engine in our region that will be strengthened through this consolidation,” said Tom Clark, executive vice president, Metro Denver EDC, in a statement. “Our community stands to benefit from this union as it represents a more efficient use of investment resources and increased strategic focus to further the economic potential of DIA.”
