The Rocky Mountain Rage of the Central Hockey League on Thursday signed defensemen Nick Harloff and Rob Chappell to shore up its blue line, the team said.

Harloff and Chappell were teammates last season with the Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals of the United Hockey League. The Rage has 11 players on its roster.

Freshman soccer players shine for Fort Lewis

The Fort Lewis College women’s soccer team opened its season with a 5-2 win over Eastern New Mexico in Durango.

Hayley Hollenga (Air Academy High School), the preseason Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference freshman of the year, scored two goals and had an assist in her first start, and fellow freshman Sara Egbom also scored twice, including the game-winner.

  • New Adams State coach Tom Cliff had his debut ruined by Montana State-Billings, which won 3-1. Ashley Grover scored the lone goal for the Grizzlies.

    The Montana State-Billings men’s team defeated Colorado Christian 2-0.
