David Kircus was one of eight players apparently cut by the Broncos prior to the team practice today.
Also missing were defensive end Kenard Lang, defensive tackle Demetrin Veal, receiver David Terrell, tailback Cedric Cobbs, fullback Troy Fleming, tight end Teyo Johnson and kicker Brandon Pace.
The team is expected to officially announce those cuts, plus three more Tuesday.
Lang and Veal were part of the Broncos’ seven-man defensive line rotation last year but both were victims of the new scheme employed by new defensive head coach Jim Bates. Kircus had nine catches for a 20.8 yard average last season but didn’t help himself when he was charged in May with felony assault after he punched a man in the face. Kircus said he acted in self defense and has pleaded not guilty.
Four previously injured players returned to practice Monday: running backs Travis Henry, Mike Bell and Andre Hall; and defensive end Tim Crowder.
