A last-minute academic casualty and previously hinted-at attrition will leave the Colorado State men’s basketball team with just seven scholarship players this season.

The school announced that spring signee Donte Poole, a 6-foot-2 guard from Las Vegas, is academically ineligible under NCAA guidelines. Additionally, the school confirmed senior guard Tyler Smith, a part-time starter last season, and freshman recruit Stephen Franklin, an all- state player at Aurora Central, will not join the team. Franklin was charged this summer with felony identification theft and will enroll at a Utah junior college. Smith did not attend summer school or offseason workouts.

First-year coach Tim Miles did not return calls.
