GREELEY, Colo.—A man accused of trying to stab a Greeley police officer has been convicted of attempted first-degree murder and other charges and faces up to 96 years in prison.
Louis Espinosa was also found guilty of assaulting a peace officer, attempted burglary, resisting arrest and menacing. A jury returned the verdicts late Tuesday.
Prosecutors say Espinosa tried to stab the officer twice with a seven-inch-long knife.
The attack was in February 2006. The officer was responding to a 911 call about someone trying to break into a house.
Sentencing is scheduled for September 27. Prosecutors say they will argue Espinosa is a habitual criminal, which could bring the 96-year sentence.
