The parent company of Flatiron Construction Corp. is on the verge of selling the Longmont-based bridge builder.
Netherlands-based Royal BAM Group, one of Europe’s largest construction companies, said in a release that negotiations to sell Flatiron are making “good progress.”
The statement said the sale is expected to be completed next month. It didn’t disclose the name of the potential buyer. Royal BAM announced plans to sell Flatiron, one of largest bridge builders in the U.S., in May.
Flatiron officials didn’t return calls seeking comment Wednesday.
The privately held company has annual revenue of $374.9 million and employs 743 people, according to Hoover’s Online, a business information website.
Among its previous work, Flatiron constructed significant portions of the $1 billion San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge. The company also worked on the repair of two Florida bridges damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
Flatiron recently was placed on the short list by the Minnesota Department of Transportation to be part of a team that would reconstruct the collapsed Interstate 35W bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, according to a statement released by the company Aug. 13.
Flatiron was founded in 1947. Its website said it has been under European ownership since 1993.
Royal BAM has annual revenues of more than $11 billion and employs more than 30,000 people worldwide.
