Labor Day weekend has arrived. Get ready to trade in the patio parties of summertime and move the celebrations inside for formal bashes, sports mania and the countdown to ski season.
White out
No one pays much attention to the old can’t-wear-white-after-Labor-Day adage these days, but Sunday’s White Party at the Gothic Theatre offers party people one last chance to play it safe.
Now in its fifth year, 3Deep Productions’ White Party marks the end of summer with a “mandatory white attire” dress code and a reputation as the hottest party of the hot season. Ladies sport club-worthy booty shorts and halters or the summertime staple, the little white dress. Gents go dressy with white suits or play it cool in white T’s and slacks.
Hosting this year’s White Party are Brittany Dailey, a hip-hop video model who has strutted her stuff for the likes of Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent, and Kingdom from KS 107.5. DJ Mark da Spot headlines behind the turn-
tables and will keep the party going until 3 a.m. Monday. VIPs can reserve a table and score bottle service specials from sponsors Tanqueray and Crown Royal.
The White Party, Sunday at the Gothic
Theatre, 3263 S. Broadway, 9:30 p.m., 21+, $21.25 in advance through Ticketweb.
Sports night showdown
Sports bars all around town will be showing Saturday’s Rocky Mountain Showdown between the CU Buffs and the CSU Rams, but Andrew’s on Lincoln (1111 Lincoln St.) is gearing up for a massive all-day drinking party. The doors open bright and early at 8:30 a.m., and fans are encouraged to arrive on time to snag the prime seats (with more than 20 TVs, there should be plenty of good spots to choose from).
Football may be the main game, but drinking becomes a secondary sport here with Beer Pong and Flip Cup tables helping boost the competitive spirit. Not a team player? Not a problem. Drink specials include $1 shots for each score, $2 Bloody Marys and $8 pitchers of Coors Light.
Summer’s end
The outdoor concert season will be coming to a close soon, so take advantage of your open-air music options while you can.
One to try: “Main Street Live,” a free concert series at Northfield Stapleton Center (8340 E. 49th Ave.). The series wraps up tonight with local bands The Trampolines and Chris Daniels and the Kings.
This will be The Trampolines final show for quite some time, as the acoustic pop-
rock trio is taking a break from performing to figure out its next album. Catch the group’s set from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight; Chris Daniels and the Kings take the stage from 8 until 9:30 p.m.
Countdown to powder
Are you already jonesin’ for ski season? You’ll have to wait a few more months to hit the slopes, but you can enjoy the anticipation by joining your fellow powder hounds during “Warren Miller Wednesdays” at Boulder’s West End Tavern (926 Pearl St.).
Each week at sundown, hit the rooftop patio to view one of Warren Miller’s adrenaline-fueled visions of big air and fresh champagne powder. Since it started in mid-July, the weekly series has featured some of Miller’s best films, from the 1950 film “Deep and Light,” to Wednesday’s showing of 1998’s “Freeriders.”
The series now continues as an annual countdown, with 1999’s “Fifty” scheduled for Sept. 12; 2000’s “Ride” on Sept. 19; and 2001’s “Cold Fusion” on Sept. 26. The countdown continues through October, leading up to the premiere of “Playground,” Warren Miller’s 2007 release, which will screen in Boulder on Nov. 7.
To help make the wait for the film premiere – and the start of ski season – a bit more bearable, West End Tavern is offering up $3 Corona specials and handing out door prizes including skis, jackets and tickets to the premiere. For the complete film schedule, visit .
