Getting your player ready...

Colorado firefighters will be out in force this weekend asking the public to drop loot into their boots to fight muscular dystrophy.

This weekend, firefighters from throughout the state will hold their annual “Fill-the-Boot” campaign to raise funds to fight the disease.

Joseph Akmakjian, 16, a junior at Poudre High School in Fort Collins, has had the disease his whole life and is one of more than 1,700 people with the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Colorado.

“It really means a lot to me and my family and other kids with MD when we see the firefighters out with their boots,” Akmakjian said today.

“I get a sense of relief and know that there will be a cure and all will be well.”

Last year, Colorado firefighters raised more than $900,000 for the MDA. This year, they hope to top that, said Ray Rahne, secretary treasure for Colorado Professional Fire Fighters.

“Our goal is to get to the $1 million mark,” he said.
