Twice postponed, the Pro-Am Carp Slam scheduled for Saturday on the South Platte River through Denver finally looks like a go. Approximately 15 paying participants whose entry fees go toward river restoration will compete for top-rod honors in a contest that extends from the REI Store on the north to Evans Avenue on the south.
Observers will find an opportunity to learn how to experience this under-utilized urban opportunity for large fish. They also could hear a 1 p.m. presentation by carp guru Barry Reynolds at event headquarters, Andrews on Lincoln, 1111 Lincoln St.
Observers are welcome at the restaurant for an 11:30 a.m. luncheon, along with an 5-7 p.m. awards party.
Walleye record
Bridget Mohler of Aurora has been certified by the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame as the catch-and-release world-record holder for a 37-inch walleye caught June 30 at Hawk Lake, Ontario. The lunker was landed on 12-pound-test line and also stands as an all-tackle record.
