DENVER—Federal regulators are giving the public an extra month to comment on a uranium mine proposed in Weld County.

Colorado Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave says she has received word from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that the public will have until October 8th to submit comments. The Republican lawmaker had requested that the September 4th deadline be extended.

Powertech, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, has proposed a $20 million uranium mine near the farming and ranching community of Nunn about 70 miles north of Denver.

Company officials have said the mine could produce as much as 8 million pounds of uranium for use in nuclear power plants.
