BODY CONSCIOUS

An Aussie product worn by top athletes is coming to America. Skins recently opened its U.S. headquarters in Boulder, and such stores as Runner’s Roost and Game Set Match are now selling the body-molded, gradient compression garments designed to enhance performance and speed recovery. Skins also wick moisture from the body, optimize body temperature and have antibacterial qualities to reduce odor. The products for men, women and children include tights, tops and tanks, socks and power sleeves; prices range from $40 to $110. More at

SEE HOW THEY RUN

Sure it’s fun to compete in a 5K run/walk, but the post-race entertainment, food and festivities can make an event memorable. That’s what organizers of the seventh annual First American State Bank Fitness Festival have in mind for Saturday at Crescent Park in Greenwood Village. Samplings from area restaurants, a silent auction, prizes and music are scheduled. Entry fees benefit the Community Asset Project (CAP), a partner with the Cherry Creek School District. Register at First American State Bank, 8390 E. Crescent Parkway in Greenwood Village, online at or beginning 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Fees begin at $15 for children 17 and younger and seniors 65+ prior to race day.

FIGHTING THE FRESHMAN 15

Along with all those heavy textbooks, new college students might want to slip a slim volume on top: “The Dorm Room Diet Planner” (Newmarket Press, $12.95). Author Daphne Oz is a student at Princeton University and the daughter of Dr. Mehmet Oz, co-author of “You: On a Diet.” She offers simple, solid advice on making smart food choices, exercises you can do in your room, and encourages goal-setting. The book is full of quizzes, lists and journal pages to chart progress. More at .
