The University of Colorado volleyball team upset No. 11 California on Sunday, sweeping the Bears 30-28, 30-25, 30-28 in the Colorado Invitational at the Coors Events Center in Boulder. It was the first set Cal (5-1) has lost this season. The Buffs (3-2) won the tournament for the third straight year, beating each of their three opponents.
DeJesus’ goal helps CU soccer gain tie
The 14th-ranked Colorado women’s soccer team rallied to tie Fairfield University 1-1 in the final game of the Denver Invitational. Colorado (1-0-1) fell behind in the 27th minute after Stags forward Ahna Johnson chipped a shot over Buffs goalkeeper Kirstin Radlinski for a goal.
But the Buffs equalized in the 51st minute when Michaela DeJesus took a pass from Nikki Marshall and scored her first career goal.
Jenna Billingsley’s goal in the 22nd minute and Brooke Lamphere’s tally in the 26th gave Denver an early lead as the host Pioneers topped Air Force 3-1. Denver (1-1) also got a score from Lizzy Carlson in the 64th minute. Roni Yadlin scored in the 43rd minute for Air Force (0-2).
Potts finishes 11th in triathlon worlds
American triathlete Andy Potts of Colorado Springs earned an 11th-place finish at the ITU BG Triathlon World Championship in Hamburg, Germany.
Potts finished the 1.5K-swim, 40K-bike, 10K-run event in 1 hour, 44 minutes, 31 seconds – 1:13 behind winner Daniel Unger of Germany.
