Redmond, Wash. – Microsoft, maker of the Zune digital music player, may consider producing a mobile phone after the success of Apple Inc.’s iPhone.
Such a product “certainly wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect that at some time,” Mindy Mount, chief financial officer of Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices unit, said at a Citigroup conference Tuesday.
Mount compared the phone idea to the company’s Xbox video-game console and Zune player, where Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft produced programs and games for other devices and decided to make its own hardware.
