July was a record month for Denver International Airport, with nearly 4.8 million passengers using the airport, the busiest month ever for DIA.

That was a 3.6 percent increase from the 4.6 million who used the airport in July 2006.

For the year through July, passenger traffic was up 4.1 percent to nearly 29.3 million passengers using DIA in those seven months.

“Vigorous airline competition and relatively low fares have combined to spur air travel in Denver,” said DIA manager Turner West in a written statement.

The growth in passenger traffic came as the number of flight operations at DIA declined slightly to 55,012 in July, down from 56,762 in the year-ago month.
