Frontier Airlines on Wednesday said it has considered a partnership with Hawaiian Airlines as it looks to expand its presence.
“It’s one of the relationships and code-share thoughts that we’ve had off and on for quite some time,” said Frontier spokesman Joe Hodas. “Hawaii and Europe are the top two things we hear about from our frequent fliers, that ‘you don’t go there, and we want to go there.”‘
Hawaiian Airlines spokesman Keoni Wagner said Hawaiian has had discussions with Frontier previously.
Frontier already has a marketing partnership with AirTran Airways, but it does not have as broad a collection of partnerships as United Airlines and other large carriers do.
Last year, Frontier partnered with British Airways to offer a discount on British Airways flights and to allow customers to bid on British Airways flights through Frontier’s mile-auction website.
Hodas described that effort as taking “some very baby steps” and added, “It might be that we start with Hawaiian the same way. We’re continuing to look at ways to enhance our frequent-flier program and to bring greater benefit to our passengers.”
