GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—One man was killed and another person was hospitalized after a grisly crash near Grand Junction.
A semitrailer driver was parked at a rest area along Interstate 70 Wednesday morning when he pulled out and merged with westbound traffic, clipping a car and sending it into the median, the Colorado State Patrol said.
Soon after the semi driver pulled over to check on the car’s driver, a pickup truck struck him as he walked across the interstate, troopers said.
The semi driver, whose name was not released, died at the scene. The car driver was taken to a hospital in critical condition, the State Patrol said.
The pickup driver James D. Wilson of Rifle was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident and failing to remain and help at the scene of a fatal accident, troopers said.
