A woman who police say ran over her 10-year-old son after letting him ride on the hood of her car has been charged with child abuse.

Clara Rosales, 27, was charged today with one count of negligent child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. According to a court document, Rosales let her 9-year-old and 10-year-old sons ride on the hood of her 1994 Honda Civic on Aug. 31. She told police she drove slowly in the alley between the 2900 blocks of Champa and Curtis streets.

The two boys jumped off the car, and Rosales, not seeing her 10-year-old son, drove forward, running over the boy with a rear tire, according to the document.

The boy suffered several broken bones in his leg.

Rosales is being held in the Denver County Jail on $50,000 bail. She will have a court appearance Tuesday.
