A 31-year-old man died today when a pickup truck crashed broadside into his car on U.S. 85 in Weld County.

The accident happened at about 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 85 and Weld County Road 34, north of Platteville. According to the State Patrol, a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Damacio Gutierrez of Greeley was stopped at a stop sign on Weld County Road 34.

The Cavalier then proceeded into the intersection, where it was hit on the passenger side by a Dodge Ram pickup truck heading southbound on U.S. 85 and towing a trailer with lawn care equipment. The pickup was driven by Frank Trojahn, 39, of Evans.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Authorities pronounced Gutierrez dead at the scene. Trojahn was uninjured, the State Patrol said.

Weather was clear at the time of the crash, and alcohol and drugs are not suspected, according to the State Patrol.
