Laramie — Two games into the season and there seems to be a new go-to receiver for the University of Wyoming football team.
Greg Bolling caught only one pass for zero yards last season as a true freshman.
But two games into his sophomore season, Bolling leads the Cowboys with 11 catches for 122 yards. He has both of the team’s touchdown receptions.
He led the Pokes with six receptions for 79 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown reception, in a 32-18 victory over Utah State last Saturday at Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium.
“Me and (UW sophomore quarterback Karsten Sween) have had a real good connection since summer workouts,” Bolling said.
Bolling’s touchdown on UW’s first possession of the third quarter gave UW a 14-3 lead.
But after a couple of Sween interceptions later in the quarter, UW was down 18-14. The Cowboys took the lead for good early in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by junior running back Wynel Seldon.
On that drive, Sween was 5-for-5 and Bolling caught three passes for 33 yards, including one for 12 yards on a third-and-8 play.
Receiver Michael Ford led UW in receptions (60) and receiving yards (674) last season and also tied for the team lead with four touchdown catches.
So far this season, Ford has caught four passes for 45 yards and zero touchdowns.
But don’t think Sween has forgotten about Ford or any of his other receivers. He has completed passes to nine different receivers in the first two games.
“I just feel real close to everyone on this team; we have this chemistry,” said Sween, who was 19-of-32 for 180 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.
“We just need to keep it going and keep getting wins. We have playmakers on his offense every where.” UW hits the road for the first time with a 6 p.m. game Saturday at Boise State (1-1).
The Broncos were the big story in college football last season as they finished 13-0, including a 17-10 win at UW, and beat Oklahoma 43-42 in overtime in the Fiesta Bowl to become only the second non-Bowl Championship Series team to play and win a BCS bowl.
However, Boise State had its 14-game winning streak snapped last week with a 24-10 loss at Washington.
Still, Boise State has won 37 straight regular-season home games since 2001, including a 33-17 win over UW in 2003. UW is 0-3 all-time against Boise State.
