This is what the gala’s for

Sure, the Children’s Hospital Gala is one of the best fundraisers in Denver. There’s always a big crowd of interesting people; a nice dinner; fabulous auction items; and, especially in recent years, terrific entertainment. More important, it raises millions to subsidize the cost of helping desperately ill or injured children get well. On Sept. 6, 300 of the biggest contributors to the 2007 Gala – planned for Saturday at the Hyatt Convention Center – were treated to a look at how their money is spent by attending a party in their honor at the new Children’s Hospital on the Fitzsimons campus in Aurora. Colorado is known as the microbrew capital of the nation and anyone who didn’t realize that does now, thanks to the huge variety of samples offered at Brew at the Zoo (And Wine, Too!). Breckenridge Brewery, Flying Dog Brewery, Grand Lake Brewing Co. and Twisted Pine Brewing Co. were just a few of the companies that participated; food came from such favorite eateries as the Cherry Cricket, Wazee Supper Club and Dish Bistro. Money raised went to the Red Apple Fund, which underwrites the zoo admission fee for children from low-income families.

As part of Operation Smile’s 25th anniversary, founders Kathleen and Dr. William P. Magee Jr. visited Denver for an international-themed dinner party held at Judi Kent Gervasini’s home. The Magees thanked the local donors and doctors who participate in the worldwide mission of treating children with facial deformities. Read more at .
