DENVER—Democratic state Rep. Mike Cerbo of Denver resigned Monday to become executive director of the Colorado AFL-CIO.
A Democratic vacancy committee has 10 days to appoint a replacement. Cerbo’s seat is considered safe for Democrats.
“It has been a tremendous honor to represent Denver in the Legislature,” Cerbo said in a written release. “During my tenure, I have been privileged to advocate directly for the middle class and I look forward to continuing to fight for Colorado families.”
He has been in the state House for five years, representing central and west Denver. He was also chairman of the House Majority Caucus.
He was appointed to fill a seat vacated by Rep. Desiree Sanchez, also a Democrat.
