Former Qwest operations chief Barry Allen has joined Providence Equity Partners, a private equity firm specializing in telecommunications, as a senior adviser, Providence announced today.
Allen retired from Qwest at the end of June, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family. He was recruited to Denver-based Qwest in summer 2002 by former chief executive Dick Notebaert. Together, they helped rebuild a company on the verge of bankruptcy. Notebaert retired from Qwest last month.
Allen will advise Providence on telecommunications-industry issues and new and existing investments.
Providence is headquartered in Providence, R.I., and has about $21 billion under management.
