New name for debutante ball

Change is rare when it comes to such tradition-steeped events as debutante balls. But the women behind the Summer Debutante Ball have decided that a new name is in order – and, what better time to announce it than on Sunday when the 2008 debutantes met for the first time at a reception held at Hal and Carolyn Kepner’s Bow Mar home?

The Fine Arts Foundation Debutante Ball better reflects the purpose behind the glitz and glamour, said Kathy Brown, who’ll be chairing the July 19 presentation with Margaret Bell. Ball proceeds are distributed, in the form of grants, to a host of nonprofit fine arts organizations in the metro area.

The 30 debutantes, all of whom are high school seniors, are: Catherine Boyle, Laura Brown, Courtney Cahen, Anne DeShetler, Emily Fisher, Andrea Fitch, Nicole Harvey, Adelaide Hester, Kate Jolliffe, Maggie Keller, Annie Lake, Jessica Lehigh, Katie Leonard, Ali Levenson, Elizabeth Mark, Alyssa McDaniel, Brittany and Lindsey McMorris, Tanya Nathan, Emily Pasternak, Alix Pavek, Katie Porter, Jordan Poyfair, Melanie Reiff, Kristina Rogers, Caitlain Schnell, Margaret Smith, Kate Spring, Cassandra Wells and Andrea Voth.

Martha Kelce and Jeanne Shannon planned the reception.

This is no joke

All Cleo Parker Robinson had to do was make a phone call to get her friend Sinbad to make an appearance at an Oct. 6 fundraiser for her internationally known dance troupe. Not only did the actor/comedian agree to be there, he told Cleo he’d pay for his own airfare and hotel. In addition to entertaining at “Dancing With Cleo, Cooking With Maya,” Sinbad will serve as the benefit’s auctioneer.

“Is there anyone Cleo doesn’t know?” mused chairwoman Roselyn Saunders, noting that Robinson is also friends with poet Maya Angelou, who’ll receive the first Martha Parker Legacy Award and share recipes from her latest cookbook for the dessert buffet to be set up after dinner. Denver’s former first couple, Wilma and Wellington Webb, are the honorary chairmen; Pam Inman heads the corporate committee. Call 303-295-1759.

Go ahead, pop a cork

An international selection of wines, plus hors d’oeuvres donated by K-M Concessions, will be served Sept. 21 at Get Uncorked, a tasting party put on by the Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Center’s Young Professional Network. President Sean McNicholas is chairing the 7 p.m. event held at a private home in Cherry Hills Village.

Kristen Strohm is the hostess and committee members are Tina Lombard, Matt Daniels, Sara Flick, Paul Wisor, Eva Magdalenski, Kathryn Buckley, Annalise Sorensen, Nick Puglisi, Patrick Roth, Eric Nilsen and Kim Clark.
