Authorities in California have found the remains of a missing college student from Grand Junction.
Landon Orcutt was last seen in July 2006, when he disappeared from the Santa Ana, Calif., home of a professor he was rooming with for the summer. Orcutt, who graduated from Grand Junction High School in 2002, was a student at Vanguard University in Southern California.
Officials in California launched an extensive search, eventually finding Orcutt’s car in the City of Big Bear with a note inside saying that he was despondent and planned on taking his own life.
On Thursday, a hiker stumbled upon human skeletal remains on U.S. Forest Service land near Big Bear. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s investigators examined the scene and the remains. On Friday, they identified the remains as those of Orcutt, according to a San Bernardino sheriff’s news release.
