Great news. Mike Shanahan has been repaid, with interest, by Al Davis.
Now if Shanny could just get that 250 grand Davis owes him.
Actually, Shanahan gave up on that front years ago, even though ex-NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue ruled in Shanahan’s favor in his quest to recover $250,000 that Davis owed him from his days as the Raiders’ head coach.
At one point, Shanahan offered Davis a deal he couldn’t refuse: Take the 250 grand and donate it to the Oakland school system. But Davis refused anyway.
Not that Davis hasn’t repaid Shanahan in other ways. Shanahan has beaten the Raiders 19 times in 24 games since becoming the Broncos’ head coach in 1995. One more victory Sunday and he would join Joe Gibbs as the only active NFL coaches with 20-plus wins over one opponent. Gibbs has 21 against the Cardinals.
The Raiders came close to beating the Broncos the last time they played, losing 17-13 at Oakland. And for the record, Shanahan really felt sorry for them.
If you believe that, I’ve got some oceanfront property in Wyoming you might be interested in.
