DENVER—A former teacher’s aide at Cherry Creek West Middle School has filed a lawsuit claiming he was fired for reporting a sexual assault on a special education student.
Sam Gelfand, in a suit filed in U.S. District Court on Wednesday, said he reported the assault on April 12. He said that when administrators had done nothing eight days later, he called police.
He said on April 22 he was reprimanded and was subsequently given a negative performance review. Gelfand said that in March his review was positive. At the end of the school year he was fired.
No one answered a phone in the Cherry Creek School District’s middle school department Wednesday evening. A district spokeswoman did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment after-hours Wednesday.
