The University of Colorado women’s soccer team took New Mexico to double overtime – the Buffaloes’ second double-overtime game in their past three outings – and finished with a 0-0 draw Sunday at the Virginia Soccer Classic in Charlottesville, Va.
Colorado (2-1-3) tied Brigham Young 0-0 in Boulder on Sept. 8. New Mexico (3-2-1) outshot the Buffs 4-2. CU hasn’t scored in its past three matches.
Pepperdine (1-4-1) turned two goals from Courtney Price and one from Amanda Rupp into a 3-0 victory over visiting Denver (2-2-2).
DU scores twice, blanks Albany
The University of Denver men’s soccer team got its first goal in the 74th minute from freshman midfielder Ryan Garren and finished with a 2-0 victory over Albany at the Green Bay Classic in Green Bay, Wis.
The Pioneers (3-2-0) also received a goal from Jacob Chase in the 86th minute. DU finished with 22 shots. Albany (1-5-1) had five shots.
Polk shines in CGA tournament
Robert Polk of the Colorado Golf Club shot a final-round 74 and finished at 6-over-par 222 to win the Colorado Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship at Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott.
Polk, who led from start to finish, became the first player to win the Mid-Amateur and Senior Stroke Play championships in the same year. He finished two strokes ahead of second-place Michael Harrington of Kissing Camels Club. Two-time champion Steve Irwin of Lakewood Country Club was third at 225.
