VAIL, Colo.—A woman driving west on Interstate 70 was killed Monday when a pickup truck heading east went off the left side of the road, became airborne and struck her car, state troopers said.
The woman driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driving the pickup truck was seriously injured, said Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Shawn Olmstead.
The head-on collision around 6 p.m. Monday closed westbound I-70 for about three hours. The accident also temporarily closed one eastbound lane. Westbound traffic was diverted onto U.S. 6.
Names of the drivers weren’t released.
Authorities were investigating the cause of the accident, Olmstead said.
