The Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League, winners of the West Division title last season, will begin the 2008 season on Dec. 29 at Pepsi Center when the team hosts the Portland LumberJax at 7 p.m., the team said.

The Mammoth then travel to Portland for a Jan. 4 game against their division rivals.

After the home-and-home series with Portland, the NLL scheduled the Mammoth for four of five games at home, including games against the Arizona Sting, San Jose Stealth, Edmonton Rush and Calgary Roughnecks.

“We really like our schedule this season,” Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. “Five of our first seven games are at home and against division opponents, so it gives us a great chance for a strong start…”

The Mammoth have qualified for the NLL postseason in each of the past five seasons and led the league in attendance last season for the third time.
