DENVER (AP) — A couple facing state charges including second-degree kidnapping have been arrested in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, in Mexico.

The FBI says 34-year-old John Ramon Chapman and his 24-year-old girlfriend, Shannon Lynette Byard, were arrested on charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

The FBI says Chapman, of Colorado Springs, violated a custody order earlier this month when he failed to return his two 4-year-old twin daughters to their mother. The FBI learned Chapman, Byard and the girls had boarded a flight to Mexico.

Chapman and Byard are in the process of being extradited to Colorado to face charges.

The children were being reunited with their mother.
